TempTick is a cyber espionage group, assessed with high confidence to be of Chinese origin, that has been observed conducting targeted attacks since at least 2017. The group is also known by the aliases Tick and Nian. Its primary motivation is the theft of sensitive information and intellectual property, operating with nation-state backing. TempTick is distinguished by its consistent targeting of sectors primarily in Southeast Asia and its adoption of custom-developed malware and exploit techniques to maintain stealth and prolonged network access, demonstrating a potential shift towards more aggressive initial compromise techniques.
