Its core motivation is financial fraud through the theft of sensitive information, particularly payment card data. While initially focused on these objectives, there has been an observed evolution towards incorporating ransomware deployment. The group is distinguished by its use of modular botnets and custom malware, alongside a variety of off-the-shelf hacking tools. Its operations have been noted for targeting in-store card payments and small to medium-sized businesses worldwide. The campaign is often discussed in the context of other prominent financial crime groups like Carbanak and FIN7 due to similar targeting and methodologies, although it is not directly affiliated or an alias of these groups.
